Three children were talking about their religions. “I’m a Catholic,” said one, “and our symbol is the cross.” “I’m Jewish,” said the second, “and our symbol is the Star of David.” The third child said, “I’m a Unitarian Universalist and our symbol is a candle in a cocktail glass!”
I was going to wish all the DonaldWilson.Info readers a Merry Christmas. I’m working today, 8am-4pm. I got Provide.Net opened up, and then made it down to Bombadill’s Neighborhood Coffee House to get a latte… only to find out I’d just missed them being robbed. The owner is out for the holiday, and there was one barista there (I don’t know her name… need to make sure I learn it), and a couple middle aged men. Not much anyone could do to stop the guy from making off with all the cash in the drawer.
So a Happy Wintertime Celebration to you all, except for the guy who robbed Bombadill’s. He can rip off the surface of his tongue on a frozen lamppost, and have his ankle eaten off by a rabid dog.
Apparently , this site has bought national ad time on Spike TV. It’s a local junk yard, and judging from the aging of the munchkin in the various photos, they’ve been up to this movie making for a few years now. It’s incredibly amusing, if occasionally painful, to watch.
FINALLY! The UUA has released files for us all to use the new UUA logo…
Only congregations and the UUA itself are supposed to use the logo.. Hmm… I guess we won’t be seeing the new UUA logo in Donald O’ Bloggin red gracing these pages anytime soon.
HOWEVER! The fact that these image files have been released shows us that INDEED, there is something going on in Boston that tech heads can be proud of. Does this mean I need to go add Category images to the Heartland YA/CM SC site?
The Heartland District has a new website! It is a blog/portal type setup now, much improved over the old version. Between the calendar (thank the bleating gods), and the blogs, it should be an interesting read. Now all I need to do is get a link to the HUUUD YA/CM site on there.
Steve Wild is my landlord. Why am I blogging about my landlord’s website? It’s because Steve rocks.
We happened by Steve by chance. He had a house he was trying to rent, and I found it in the paper. It was the right location, and he returned my phone call promptly. The apartment really caught Tessie’s heartstrings, so we signed a lease for it, and it’s been a good home for the past year and a half. For a first apartment together it was probably even one of the best options around.
I think what really intrigues me about Steve is his attitude towards the houses. Right on the front of his website, he claims that he “looks after the houses/apartments” on the site. He doesn’t “manage the properties”, or “own” the houses. He looks after them, and that makes all the difference. The care he puts into our creaky, occasionally drafty, Civil War era house, is in the hard wood floors, the new porch (hand made by Steve) for the upstairs apartment, and the wood pane windows. Did I mention he comes by himself to plow our our driveway after a snow?
As Tessie and I look for a new place, we’re hoping it’s another of Steve Wilds. So, here’s to Steve.
The Heartland Young Adult and Campus Ministry Community has a Frappr map here. The interesting part, was that I entered in my Zip code as 48198, and she entered hers as 48197, ie the 2 zip codes for Ypsilanti, which resulted in our actual residence to be precisely equidistant between the flags on the map that referred to me and Tessie.
I would have suggested that you go look at this amusing bit of cyber-coindidence, but Tessie is a putz and moved her dot to actually BE where our apartment is, so you can’t.
