According to the AP (Although I used the MSNBC page because the pic is awesome), George Tekai announced to the world that he’s gay, and then went on the Howard Stern show. Go George!
The Einstein Newton Emulator is now running on a Sharp Zaurus Linux PDA. It’s not quite as fast as a standard MessagePad 2000, but they are getting close.
When the Einstein project advances just a wee bit more, I think I’ll actually buy a Zaurus (probably second hand) and use a PDA again. If I can use OpenBSD on the device, with the Einstein/NewtonOS on top of it, I’d be even more inclined.
My swim team managed to really sparkle yesterday. 4 young women, and 2 gentlemen dropped their times, qualified for the State meet, (mostly) behaved, and even placed 1st or 2nd in every event. I’m rather proud of them, as much as they drive me up a wall most days.
All but one were 8th graders this year, so this fall, I get a clean slate to work with. We’ll see how I do.
The Kalamazoo Conference is the longest running YA/CM annual event in the heartland District. This is ( I think ) the 6th year they’ve hosted it the weekend before the observance of Martin Luther King Jr’s B-day. That’s where I’m headed later today.

So far, I’m doing all right. I only got 1.5 hrs of sleep before getting up to leave for the Detroit airport, but I made it up in naps on planes and my hotel room yesterday.
I need to NOT get used to the sort of treatment I’m getting. The Convention bureau’s are catering to the people that make decisions about if and how events get planned, but it’s taking a while for it to sink in that I’m one of those people they are catering to. These city subsidized hotel rooms, and gift bags of goodies… it can go to a lads head after a while.
Happy new year everyone.
